THE SHORT ANSWER

Product-led growth lets product use drive acquisition or expansion. Sales-led growth uses human selling to diagnose and coordinate a purchase. Marketing-led growth creates and converts demand through audiences and channels. Partner-led growth relies on another organization for access, trust or delivery. Fit depends on price, complexity, customer size, trust and implementation needs.

Design hybrids around handoffs

A customer may discover through content, try the product, speak with sales for procurement and use a partner for implementation. The useful question is which motion owns each stage and what evidence passes between them.

Unclear handoffs create duplicate outreach, lost context and promises that onboarding cannot fulfill.

Measure the entire motion

Compare customer quality, conversion, time to value, retention, cost and human effort. A high signup rate does not establish product-led fit if most users never activate.

Use activation and onboarding to examine that handoff.
